All cases of alleged discrimination are now covered by the Equality Act 2010 which consolidates all the previous legislation into one Act.
Instead of an individual claiming discrimination on one of the grounds e.g race, sex and age, a claim is now based on discrimination on the basis of a protected characteristic.
In the event that you are unfortunate enough to be the victim of discrimination, compensation is calculated in the same way as in other unfair dismissal cases except:
- There is no cap on compensation, which otherwise would normally be £83,682
- You may receive an award for injury to feelings.
